About Heart of Washington
From the Heart of Washington is a campaign designed to increase demand for
Washington agricultural and food products by Washington buyers, and to present
an accurate picture of the value of agriculture as part of the state's economy and its
key role in sustaining rural communities.
The objectives of From the Heart of Washington are:
- to illustrate the benefits of
the agricultural industry on the economy, lifestyle and environment of the state,
and
- to emphasize the broad variety of high-quality, safe and healthy products
grown in Washington and the people who produce them.
Agriculture employs more people than any other industry in Washington and
supports thousands of families in the state's urban and rural communities. From
the Heart of Washington reminds people that buying local agricultural products
helps to ensure a healthy economy in our state. It has unified government,
retailers, producers and consumers in a celebration of products ‘from our home
to your home.’
The three-year-long campaign was funded out of a one-time federal grant issued in the fall of 2001 to help support agriculture in Washington state, and across the nation. It highlights the state's diverse seasonal crops, livestock, processed foods, wine, nursery products and seafood. From the Heart of Washington's outreach efforts are concentrated primarily in the heavily populated Puget Sound area, and communicated to the public through promotions.
